…tuppence a bag. Well, we wish it were tuppence a bag, this stuff is rather expensive. One of our hives is a bit short on bees and a bit short of food, so we have been keeping a careful eye on it to make sure the small colony does not starve.
We try to leave enough food in the hives for the bees to survive the winter comfortably; no doubt their own honey is the best thing for the job. However, this colony did not really get going in time to build up enough stores, so needs a bit of help. In the winter they can be fed with fondant. To keep them going for a bit longer we added another half a pack of fondant to the remains of the last bag. There seemed to be plenty of activity so we are hopeful that they might survive, with warmer weather on the way.
